Learn more about Chromagen's range of solar water heaters & which type might be right for you?
Q1: Select which type of system installation would you prefer?
Split systems, consist of a separated configuration of ground mounted tank and roof mounted thermal collectors. A small pump is utilised to circulate water up to the roof top collectors.
These systems form a streamlined appearance on your roof and are ideal if roof aesthetics are important to you, where ground space is available around the house, and if the roof cannot carry the weight of a full water tank.
Roof Mounted Systems
Roof mounted systems, also known as 'thermosiphon systems', consist of roof mounted tank and collectors in a close-coupled arrangement.
These systems do not require a circulation pump as natural convection from the thermosiphon effect, circulates the water around the system to collect the sun’s heat.
These systems are ideal when ground space is limited and for newer homes with strong roofs to support the tank.
Q2: Select which energy type will you need to boost your solar water heater?
Your new solar water heater is designed to utilise two energy sources to provide you with reliable, energy efficient hot water all year around.
A solar water heater will provide up to 90% of your water heating needs, however all solar hot water systems utilise a supplementary heating source (boosting) to ensure you get dependable hot water in times of low solar contribution. The booster is typically fuelled by gas or electricity and only activates when necessary to ensure the water temperature meets the set level.
If you have reticulated gas at your home then selecting a gas boosted system is the best option as they provide the lowest running costs. LPG models for bottled gas are also available. Gas boosted systems are supplied with an advanced Eternity continuous flow gas water heater to ensure you get endless hot water that never runs out.
If you only have electric power at your home then an electrically boosted system is the ideal type for you, and will provide significant reductions in running costs over an existing electric storage water heater. Electric boosted systems feature an electric element in the tank to rapidly heat the water to the set temperature if necessary.
Q3: Does the installation area have potential for frost?
If the area where the system will be installed has the potential for temperatures that are equal or less than 4°C at least one day per year, then please advise your local Chromagen dealer so that the most appropriate system can be quoted to you.
By selecting a system suitable for frost, it will be protected against damage that might be caused by freezing water.
If the area where the system will be installed is subject to frost, then you should advise our local Chromagen dealer so that the most appropriate system can be quoted to you. Options for frost-prone areas
Q4: Is your water supply hard (High in calcium hardness)?
If the water supply to your water heater is 'hard' (i.e. high in Calcium), then you should advise your local Chromagen dealer so that the most appropriate system can be quoted to you.
By selecting a system suitable for hard water, it will be protected against damage that might be caused by blockages from Calcium scale.
