Solar & Heat Pump Hot Water
Rebates, Incentives & Grants
Going solar is the smart way to secure a sustainable future for your family or business, and to minimise the impact of ever-increasing electricity costs.
Like you, the Australian Federal & State Governments are committed to a cleaner and greener future and they are supporting your efforts to 'go solar' in the following ways:
- Federal Government Renewable Energy Target (RET) Scheme
- State Government hot water rebates
- Government Grants
Federal Government - Renewable Energy Target (RET)Switching to a renewable energy technology water heater is the smart way to secure a sustainable future for your family or business, and to minimise the impact of ever-increasing electricity costs.Like you, the Australian Federal & State Governments are committed to a cleaner and greener future and they are supporting your efforts to 'go solar' with the Renewable Energy Target scheme. The Federal Government RET scheme is made up of the Small-scale Renewable Energy Target (SRET) and the Large-scale Renewable Energy Target (LRET), and is designed to create an incentive for businesses and consumers to invest in renewable energy sources.Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs)Under the Federal Government's Small-scale Renewable Energy Targets Scheme owners of renewable energy installations, who meet the Governments eligibility requirements, can create Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). Large energy retailers are required to create and/or source STCs as a part of their legal responsibility and commitment to Australia's renewable energy future.
STCs can be created after the installation of registered domestic small scale solar hot water and heat pump hot water systems, and relate to most common residential and business applications. The highly energy efficient range of Chromagen solar hot water and heat pump systems do qualify to generate STCs under the Federal Government STCs program.

Australian consumers, who become owners of solar hot water and heat pump hot water installations, can therefore obtain a reduction in the upfront cost of their system, making the switch to Chromagen water heaters even more affordable.

State Government rebates & incentives
NOTE: Federal Government’s solar hot water rebate closed
The Federal Solar Hot Water Rebate of $1000 is no longer available. This rebate was given to eligible applicants who replaced an existing electric storage tank with a solar hot water system.
Despite this federal rebate ending in February 2012, other state-funded rebates are still available to support you in switching to energy-efficient hot water.
Victorian State Government IncentivesVictoria Energy Efficiency Target Scheme (VEET)The Victorian Government has also implemented a certificate based scheme that permits prescribed energy efficient activities the right to create Victorian energy efficient certificates. The scheme is based on a similar concept to the Small-scale Technology Certificate scheme and requires a number of liable Victorian based electricity retailers to surrender a certain amount of these VEECs per annum. This scheme focuses on the decommissioning of old, inefficient hot water systems and the other prescribed products.Downloads:

Northern Territory GovernmentThe NT Government provides a retrofit rebate of up to $1000 for the installation of solar hot water systems. The actual rebate depends on the modifications required to the roof and is based on solar hot water systems that replace electric systems.
Homes built in or prior to the year 2000 that have timber trusses in their roofs which will require reinforcement in order to support the new solar hot water system. Additional plumbing will also need to be completed.
Up to $1000
Homes built in or prior to the year 2000 that have steel trusses in their roofs which will only require additional plumbing
